A Calne student has secured the start of a career that will prove to open many doors – and windows – in the future, all thanks to a meeting at Kingsbury Green Academy’s annual Careers Fair.
18-year-old Georgie Winton has secured a role as Marketing Coordinator with Deceuninck, a global top three independent manufacturer of PVC and composite profiles for windows and doors.
The Calne-based company first met Georgie at the Kingsbury Green Academy Careers Fair, where Georgie was a pupil. Having known that her passion lay in a future in marketing, Georgie was keen to secure a role with such global opportunities and to enter the world of work as early as possible.
However, as part of her studies, she also undertook an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) looking at the beauty industry’s impact on the environment, making Deceuninck, with its commitment to ambitious sustainability targets, was an ideal match.
In her role as Marketing Coordinator, Georgie is responsible for supporting the UK marketing for the company, as well as supporting events and digital communications. Despite her young age, Georgie has a wealth of experience in social media, having run a successful Instagram account and securing a range of brand partnerships with well-known beauty brands.
Georgie explained, “Meeting Deceuninck at the careers fair was a great opportunity and although I was worried about balancing my Sixth Form studies when I first started the role, they were really good at helping ensure I had the right balance.
“This is a great opportunity to work and learn more; there’s so much knowledge in the business and in the team. I knew that going to university wouldn’t be the best route for me, but with Deceuninck there will be plenty of opportunities to continue learning and studying in the future too.”
Deceuninck Head of Marketing, Carol Hearn, added, “Before Georgie we had never taken on anyone so young, but her experience and take on business will allow us to develop our marketing and work with our installers and their clients in a way that works for the future. The Kingsbury Green Academy Careers Fair has always been an excellent event and the support provided to their pupils makes them stand out.”
The annual Kingsbury Green Academy Careers Fair brings together more than 40 local businesses, with more supporting the school and helping pupils to build the skills that make them ready for the world of work.
Cath Young, Careers Leader at Kingsbury Green Academy, said, “The Kingsbury Green Academy Careers Fair is a highlight of the year for us as it not only shows our pupils that there is a wealth of exciting and successful businesses in and around Calne, but, as Georgie shows, can open the doors to wonderful opportunities to kick start exciting careers.”
The Kingsbury Green Academy Careers Fair takes place each November. If you would like to showcase your organisation to the school’s pupils, contact email hidden; JavaScript is required
