News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

For mum of two Lucy, the search for good local shoe shop for pre-schoolers set her on the path to setting up her own business, CeCe & Me Bath

“I moved to Bradford on Avon a few years ago with my husband and two children,” explained Lucy. “We missed the independent shoe shop near our old home so much that I started looking for ways to bring a trusted mobile shoe fitting service (stocking the sweetest shoes around!) to Bath and surrounding areas.

“And now, here I am, trained up as a shoe fitter and ready to help you keep those little feet healthy and happy!”

Lucy now offers a range of quality, well made – “And incredibly cute,” added Lucy! – shoes in sizes 18-28 (UK sizes 2 to 10).

“The shoes are sourced from some of the best international children’s footwear brands such as Bobux, Froddo, Ricosta, Camper and Zig + Star and include pre-walkers, first walkers and shoes for confident stompers.

“I offer home appointments, as well as popping up in locations across Bath and surrounding areas. I will measure your child’s feet properly, talk you through options and answer your questions so you can make a confident choice about what’s right for them. There’s never any obligation to buy – I’m always happy to help you measure or fit check current shoes.”

Some facts about little feet

  • Babies have very little actual bone in their feet. When they’re born, their feet are made up of soft, very malleable cartilage. Over time this hardens into the 26 bones of the foot, but the process takes years and the feet can be easily damaged in this time.
  • There are more nerve endings in the feet than anywhere else in the body. Once your little person is on their feet, the number one goal (for them, and for us all!) is as much barefoot time as possible while they discover their connection to the ground, learn to balance, learn their natural gait and send that all important feedback back to their brain.
  • To keep them happy and healthy, your little one’s feet should be measured regularly to make sure they are wearing the right size shoe for them. Too small (or too big) and their shoes can cause damage to their little feet. As with all else, feet grow at very different rates and often in spurts.  If your little person is under 4, the advice is to have a fitting check every 8-10 weeks. That’s not to say they will need a new pair of shoes every time but it lets you keep a track of how their feet are changing, and how much growing room they have left.
