News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

30 decorated pumpkins will be displayed in shops and businesses around Trowbridge town centre from Thursday 24 October until Sunday 3 November for the annual Trowbridge Chamber pumpkin trail.

The pumpkins can be found at venues across Trowbridge town centre including cafes, flower shops, beauty salons, art centres, a pet shop, toy shop, gin distillery and a circus school.

Pumpkin trail maps leading Halloween fans on a spooky trail of discovery can be downloaded from the Trowbridge Chamber website.  A limited number of printed maps will also be available from The Toy Shop in Castle Street and the Trowbridge Visitor Centre.

The 30 pumpkins will each have a number displayed alongside them. For a chance to win prizes, the challenge is to add up the numbers and email the total to email hidden; JavaScript is required.  All correct entries will go into a draw to win prizes donated by Chamber members, which include:

Kez Garner of the Trowbridge Chamber, said, “We are delighted that so many town centre businesses are taking part in our Trowbridge Pumpkin Trail and having fun decorating them. Many thanks to Tesco for kindly donating the pumpkins and to Witty Events for organising the trail.

“The trail is a fun way for Trowbridge residents and visitors of all ages to get out and about and discover some of our wonderful town centre shops and businesses that they may not have known about before.”

One of the spookiest aspects of Halloween is that every year around 24 million pumpkins are thrown away uneaten and end up in landfill, equivalent to around £40 million of food waste and enough to make some 146 million meals. The Trowbridge trail pumpkins, which were donated by Tesco, are being decorated whole rather than carved so they be enjoyed as delicious pumpkin soup or pie afterwards and kept out of landfill.
