Pupils at Monkton Combe School have delivered some of the strongest ever results at A-level achieving record beating “A*- A” and “A*-B” grades.
With 51% of grades at A* to A, 81% at A* to B and one in five grades at A*, it nearly doubles the percentage of the top grades secured by Monkton pupils three years ago.
An impressive 8% of pupils at the school achieved three or more A*s this year and one pupil achieved A* grades in all four of their subjects.
Once again this year Monkton pupils are taking up offers at a huge range of Universities from Cambridge to Central St Martins and Imperial College to Durham, as well as Exeter, Bristol, Birmingham and many more.
Monkton Combe School Principal, Chris Wheeler, said, “I am delighted for these young people that they have taken the next steps to fulfilling their dreams and achieved such outstanding results. We tend to obsess about academic results at this time of year, perhaps because they are easiest to count.
“Just as important at Monkton is that our pupils also leave the school with proven and tracked higher levels of confidence in themselves and others than many other pupils nationally, that their self awareness is strong and that they offer a diverse range of skills to the world beyond our gates.”
“Monktonians are marked out by who they are, not what they are and these grades only tell a small part of the story, which is why we don’t focus on the national league tables or publish our results in them, despite academic outcomes for our pupils that would likely place us in the top hundred UK schools.”
