A Year 6 pupil at The Royal High School in Bath has won gold in the British Gymnastics National Age Group Championships.
The competition saw Amelie put in an outstanding performance on all four apparatus to finish in individual first place, taking the gold medal and being crowned British Champion at her age group.
Alongside Amelie’s individual title, the South West team finished in an unprecedented second place in their age group, taking the team silver medal.
Amelie trains with her team at Bristol Hawks Gymnastics Club, one of the top clubs in Great Britain and home to Olympic Gymnast Claudia Fragapane.
Amelie’s father, Andrew, commented, “This is a remarkable achievement and a reward for the dedication, hard work and commitment that she has put into her sport for the last year. Amelie’s success this year would not have been possible without the support of The Royal High School, most notably Miss Hughes, Miss Gurney, Mrs Sharples, Mrs Banks and Miss Drew, who have been extremely supportive in terms of flexibility, scheduling and homework.”
