The pupils of Downside School are buzzing with excitement after the opening of a new Performing Arts Centre. The facilities rival the best in the country with access to a digital recording studio, a Mac technology suite, new ensemble spaces and a series of brand new sound-proofed practice rooms, wrapped around the fully-refurbished 500-seat theatre!
The prestigious Catholic school has an enviable musical heritage: its first Director of Music was the renowned musicologist, Sir Richard Terry, who later went on to be Music Master of Westminster Cathedral and inspired a generation of composers.
With Gregorian chant ringing out from the Abbey Church at one end of the 500-acre estate, to prolific pupil output in the new recording studio at the other, Downside is a wonderful source of musical inspiration for all who visit.
A production of West Side Story will take place on 18th and 19th March. Please see www.downside.co.uk for booking details.
