There’s always time for some fun and silliness, so thank you to local mum Els who told us about the Wednesday Children’s Matinee The Incredible Adventures of Professor Branestawn, which sees eccentric inventor fight the forces of evil in this comedy adventure film, based on Norman Hunter’s iconic children’s books.

Armed with a multitude of crazy inventions, and alongside his eccentric allies Colonel Dedshott, Mrs Flittersnoop and young apprentice Connie, Branestawm, the original mad professor, takes on scheming businessman Mr Bullimore and officious local councillor Harold Haggerstone, to try to stop their plans to bulldoze his workshop to make way for a giant munitions factory right in the middle of town.

Available for 28 days on the BBC iPlayer.

Thank you to Bath Building Society for letting us know about Young Money, the financial education charity which is part of Young Enterprise, and the Building Societies Association (BSA), the body representing UK building societies, which has launched a set of financial education materials for children, parents and carers to use while schools are closed.

The initial set of resources includes exercises for primary and secondary school pupils to help them learn about needs and wants, making choices and planning ahead.

These activities have been revised by Young Money to be delivered at home – either with parental support for younger children, or via self-teaching for older pupils. The exercises include full guidance on how to deliver engaging and relevant money activities in the home, as we start a new school term.
