Special Parenting Together is a group for parents of autistic children. As the organisers explain, ‘Whether your child is diagnosed or not yet, if you suspect they have autism, you are very welcome. This group is a place of acceptance, love, kindness and solidarity. We can ask for help, share wisdom and practical tips, and receive.’

Todo El Mundo is supplying online private tuition in French, Spanish and German for older children (school years 7-11) and adults, to provide an extra boost.  Lessons can take place via Skype or Zoom, and can be either one-to-one or in a small group. Find out more by clicking here 

Potter, Gary Wood, is offering hands-on clay workshops for families with children aged five and upwards, including special needs children, couples and individuals.

During each three-hour session, which take place at his garden studio near Bathford, Gary will demonstrate a number of making and decorating techniques, and fire your pieces when they are dry, ready for you to pick another day for a glazing session.

Gary’s studio is situated in the spacious garden at his home, with plenty of space for social distancing. The workshops cost £180 per family, plus materials and kiln firing.

Wiltshire Music Connect has announced an exciting series of STEAM workshops for children in Wiltshire, delivered by their new partners at Conductive Music. In the second week of June 2020, primary age children in the county will be able to join online STEAM workshops – learning how to use science, technology, maths and coding to make music.

Wiltshire Music Connect is covering the cost (approx. £7 per child) so that the sessions are FREE of charge for participants.

The live online sessions will take place through Zoom and children can take part from their own homes, using laptops, tablets or phones. They will cover subjects including making art, music and having fun with Scratch Jr, how to code, compose and perform with your very own digital musical instrument and an introduction to online digital music making on the free platform Soundtrap.

Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO) has announced a series of initiatives to inspire all ages during the summer months. From learning to compose and perform sea shanties to a curated night-time playlist there is plenty to occupy busy minds, supporting families during lockdown.

A three-week series BSO Young Explorers: Sea, Voyages & Hope workshops (from Monday 8 June) introduces children to making music as they learn to make their own works, take part in warm-up exercises, and rehearse two newly-commissioned nautical songs to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower’s pioneering voyage. The project culminates in a group performance at the end of the summer term. The workshops are designed to support the Key Stage 2 curriculum, but can be enjoyed by all ages. Led by BSO Associate Musician Sam Mason and composer James Redwood the sessions will be available — and free for all — at bsolive.comNew sessions will be uploaded each week throughout June.

With some children returning to school and lockdown restrictions easing, the British Psychological Society (BPS) has today launched two short films to help parents, carers and education professionals use play to support children to make sense of the changes happening in their lives.

Created as a resource for families, the first film highlights the benefits of using play to help children understand the changes they are experiencing and gives tips on using play to support their wellbeing.

The second film offers professionals expert advice from educational psychologists and experts in play about its role in supporting learning and promoting children’s wellbeing as they return to a school environment that may look very different.

Lasting 10 hours over three weeks and with four modules, it covers Children’s Emotional Health, Being Your Best Self, Children’s Development and Family Cooking.

Freckles explain, ‘You will finish the course feeling more confident and knowledgable about working with children and give you the leg up to kickstart working with children, in any capacity, be it as a babysitter, au pair or at Camp America.’
