News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Bath-based photographer, Freya Steele, is offering family photography sessions with a difference – lots of fun and games, outdoor locations and even a sprinkle of Christmas magic!

“I just love photography and working with families to provide those precious memories that they’ll keep forever. I come from a family of photographers – both my dad and my brother are amazing professional photographers – and I went to university to study Wildlife Media, which explains the love of working outdoors.

“The outdoor family photoshoots that I offer are just the perfect way to capture memories as the little ones get older. Being outdoors in a relaxed and familiar setting allows me to capture those natural cheeky smiles and expressions that really bring a family’s character to the fore, while also offering a welcome change from the same old standard pictures. I want my families to walk away from their photoshoot feeling like that was the best and most enjoyable thing they have ever done.”

Freya explained that families are welcome to choose their favourite outdoor venue, which might typically be a park, their favourite woods, a lakeside or even in their own garden. Then the fun takes over, perhaps with piggy back races, family games or simply encouraging the children to discuss who has the smelliest socks! “It’s amazing what wonderful expressions can be created by a little old-fashioned silliness,” added Freya.

“Shooting outdoors can have its own challenges, which of course includes the weather, but it’s also full of opportunities to catch those unforgettable images that just can’t happen in a studio – the colours and leaves of the autumn, snow in the winter, the beautiful flowers of spring and those warm summer evenings. From me, it’s just the best way to work with families, get to know them and capture their smiles in a beautiful setting. This is exactly why I love this type of photography, as it offers something totally different, unique and personal.

“If an outdoor shoot really isn’t your style, then I’m always happy to come to your house and capture everyday life with your favourite toys or in the garden.”

Freya is also adding a little Christmas magic to her photographs by offering a selection of yuletide settings, allowing families to be part of their own Christmas cards and family presents.

Freya’s family shoots generally cost £75, which includes post photographic work and 15 free digital images, with an option to purchase more.
