News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Several pupils from Monkton Combe School in Bath have been selected to join the England Hockey Performance Centre in Bristol, following an extensive assessment process along with the best hockey players in Bath, Bristol and the surrounding areas. Those pupils are Elliot Hardisty (Boys U17), Zack Glasgow, Harry Hardisty and Felix Pike (Boys U15), and Eliza Davies and Emma Hibbert (Girls U15).

Monkton has a proud history of producing outstanding hockey players and the current crop of Monkton students is no different. After an assessment process which has run over the past month, no fewer than six Monkton pupils have been selected to join the Bristol Hockey Performance Centre. Here they will attend training sessions over the coming months being exposed to high level coaching and being challenged to take their game to the next level.

In the spring of 2022, U15 and U17 teams will then be selected from the Performance Centres out of Weybridge, Southampton, Taunton and Bristol, to compete in the National Age Group competitions held next summer, from where England Hockey will select their U16 and U18 national squads.

Head of Monkton Hockey, Chris Hibbert was extremely proud of the players achievements and said, “We have a number of very talented hockey players in the school across all the year groups, and we try to help all of them reach their potential. This selection to join the Bristol PC centre, is wonderful recognition for these six Monkton pupils and a great opportunity to train alongside the best players in the region and receive outstanding coaching.

“There are obviously also in any process a few who have missed out who are as talented and passionate about the game, and we will continue to work with these players at Monkton to ensure they are ready for the next assessment round.”
