News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Pupils at The Grove Primary School in Trowbridge have raised an amazing £705.80 for charity through a sponsored readathon. The event took place in conjunction with the charity Read for Good which provides a regular supply of brand new books along with storyteller visits to brighten up the days of children in all of the UK’s main children’s hospitals.

During the month of November, the children from The Grove Primary School were encouraged to read as much as possible, setting themselves a target and asking friends and relatives to sponsor them. With all of the children logging their reading online, the school clocked up 17,060 minutes of reading throughout the month.

Miss Haines, English Lead at The Grove, said, “It was lovely to see the children buzzing about books! We are always looking for ways to encourage children’s reading for pleasure and this presented the perfect opportunity. The children at The Grove are very compassionate, so they were extremely motivated to raise money for such a great cause. One extraordinary pupil, Ebriel Honey, raised over £100 and we are all incredibly proud of her!”
