News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Almost every family in Bath and North East Somerset has been offered one of their overall preferences for primary school places in 2022/23.

Figures released today by Bath & North East Somerset Council show that, for the second year running, 99% of applications received one of their overall preferences with 97% getting their first preference of primary school.

The total number of applications received from Bath and North East Somerset residents was 1,742.

Of them, 1,693 children got their first preference school, 32 pupils were offered their second preference and eight pupils offered their third preference.

The figures show nine pupils were not offered a place at any of their preferences and were offered a place at their next nearest school with a place available. These are known as referrals.

In 2021 the number of children offered their first place was 93%.

Councillor Dine Romero, cabinet member for Children and Young People, Communities and Culture, said, “It’s brilliant news that this year an increased 97% of families in B&NES were offered a place at their first choice of school, with 99 per cent receiving one of their overall preferences. Looking forward to starting school in reception is an exciting time for children and their families and I wish them all the very best with their education.”
