Bath City Farm in Whiteway, Bath, is launching the next round of Little Farmers, a club especially for under fives and their parents, following receipt of funding from BBC Children in Need.
The club is free for participants who qualify and live in Southdown, Whiteway or Twerton areas of Bath, and have been affected by the pandemic in some way, whether that be isolation or difficulties with eating a healthy diet.
Activities vary each week and include feeding the farm animals, growing and watering plants, crafts and songs. The children and their parents have a wonderful time feeding the pigs and goats and chickens, counting how many eggs have been laid that morning and making different natural crafts, inspired by the changing seasons. Each week a seasonal healthy snack is provided
The sessions run in a 12 week block and link to nature and the changing seasons as much as possible. The atmosphere of the group is relaxed and friendly and is run by experienced worker Sadie Rhodes. The next block of 12 sessions starts on Friday 23 September and sessions run from 10 am to 12pm.
“It’s been an odd few years and many children have not had opportunities to socialise with others due to the pandemic,” said Sadie. “Having just completed the first 12-week block of sessions, I have really noticed a difference in the children’s confidence levels and ability to take turns and share. The group is also a lovely place for parents or carers to meet and get to know one another. I hope that it will provide people with ideas for activities that can be repeated at home and encourage people to enjoy being outdoors and in nature all year round. “
