News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

The Keynsham Eco Festival takes place from 12-16 October, and offers workshops and competitions, advice for everyone on how to eat smarter and food knowledge, and the chance to see Giuseppe Dell’Anno (Bake Off winner 2021) as he judges the Eco Cake Competition. Baked to the theme of ‘Our Wonderful World’ the creative cakes will be using LOAF ingredients (local/organic/animal friendly/fairtrade).

The week of events begins with a series of free but ticketed workshops at the Temple Street Canteen:

Wednesday 12th October 7-8pm ‘More Taste, Less Waste’: Local nutritionist Trisha Lahner will be helping you to eat well but prep smarter in the kitchen. Five recipes to be provided one of which will be demonstrated on the evening plus top tips for saving time, money and energy. Followed by Q & A.

Thursday 13th October 10am and 1.30pm ‘Eat the Rainbow’: A one-hour workshop run by nutrition and lifestyle coach, Jasmine Stevens Wong for pre-schoolers and their parents/carers to have fun with brightly coloured fruit and vegetables. There will be activities for children and opportunities for parents to receive tips and ask questions about incorporating natural food and drink into their children’s diets.

Thursday 13th October 11.30 One Community Trust Building ‘Growing in Small Spaces’: Drop in all day. Have you ever wanted to grow your own food?

Do you live in a flat or a house with limited garden space? Come and learn from Trevor James and Chris Lawrence about how to grow plants that you can eat, in small or unusual spaces.

At The Space, Keynsham:

Friday 14th October 7.30pm ‘ Food Resilience, Security and Affordability’ (£5 a ticket): Food expert panel followed by Q&A. At a time of rapidly rising food prices, the UK produces less than half the food we eat. This makes our communities vulnerable to unstable world markets and economic winds.

Saturday 15th October: Stall Event, Marketplace 10-3pm: Come and see the see the many stalls highlighting local community environmental groups, charities, organisations and eco businesses, where you can sign up and (new this year!) purchase food, goods, and services to try. Find out what local opportunities there are for you to make a difference.

Saturday 15th October Eco Challenge Exhibition at Keynsham Methodist Church (10-3pm) Exhibition by Two Rivers Primary School and Prayer Space /Presentation and Café

Sunday 16th October:

·         Church Eco Service at 10.30 am at Keynsham Methodist Church (Victoria Road)

·         Workshop: Temple Street Canteen 2-3.30pm ‘Active Hope: A work that reconnects’: Join local mum, psychologist and unlikely climate activist, Vicki Youdan, for a workshop exploring our ‘climate emotions’ based on the based on the work by Joanna Macy, helping transform despair to collaborative action.
