Children in Year 6 at St Saviour’s Junior School have kicked off the year in style with an adventurous residential trip to Swanage, Dorset. Staying at the Cumulus Centre in just the second week of term, the children enjoyed traditional seaside activities such as mackerel fishing on a boat and a picnic lunch on the beach. Fish that were caught were cooked up on the campfire that evening, and the children got to try their catch. One pupil said, “I have never been fishing before, but now I’m going to ask my Dad if I can go again, I love it!”

Further highlights of the trip included kayaking on a lake and sliding around a mud run obstacle course. Many pupils loved splashing into the pools of mud – some even brought their goggles to ensure nothing would hold them back from diving head first into the mud!

Mrs Offler, Miss Markwell and Mrs Charlton, Year 6 teachers, said, “It was great fun supporting the children on this trip. They got stuck into all of the activities so enthusiastically. It has been a great way to start the year working together as a team in some exciting situations: the children supported each other (and us!) brilliantly.”
