News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Steve Bishton, manager of Francis DIY on Moorland Road in Bath, details some of the energy saving products available at his shop

It looks like it could be a challenging winter and beyond for families across Bath and beyond, and we’re looking to do everything that we can to help. Everyday we’re seeing mums and dads coming in asking for advice on energy saving products, from LED light bulbs to draught excluders and fuel. We’re always happy to offer advice in any way that we can.

Among the energy saving products available at Francis DIY, Steve has put his top five together.

LED Light Bulbs from £3.99

According to the Energy Saving Trust, lighting makes up 11% of the average UK household electricity consumption. By fitting energy efficient lighting such as LEDs, it helps lower electricity bills and carbon dioxide emissions.

Halogen heaters from £19.99

Generally speaking, Halogen heaters are one of the most efficient types of heaters, particularly for smaller areas. They can cost around 6p an hour to run for the smaller heaters, up to around for the 1500W variety.

Draught excluders

Draught excluders for window’s and doors prices start from £2, saves up to 35% less heat loss. OK, yes, these are old-school, but sometimes granny’s right and blocking out those draughts from door and windows can make a real different to how warm your family home remains in the winter.

Calor Gas

We also supply Calor gas heaters and bottles, with a combination costing from £259. Again, we’ve seen a real increase in demand for these products as they offer instant heat in an easy to control system.

Fuel

Alongside the Calor heaters and bottles, we supply a wide range of fuels, from hardwood logs to nets of kindling, bags of high quality smokeless fuel and charcoal.

We’re always happy for customers to call in and ask our advice about what energy saving items will work best for them.
