A Bath student has used his gap year before starting at university to start up his own sticker business, Buzz Decals. Bartosz Osowski was due to take up a place at the University Campus of Football Business (UCFB) Wembley, to study Sport’s Law. However, after a mix-up with his student loan saw being forced to take year out, he decided to find the positive from the situation by using the time to start his own business.

Bartosz grew up in Rastock with his mum, Anna. Then at the age of 13, he moved to Poland to care for his father. After returning to the UK and passing his A Levels, he was offered his place at university, but due to his time in Poland he was unable to secure a student loan until he had confirmed Settled Status. While this has now come through, it is too late for Bartosz to take his place this year.

“Bartosz decided that to make the most of the gap year, he would do something more ambitious than a regular job, that could also lead to greater things,” explained mum Anna. “He worked at a company that did stickers before, and realised that there was a lot of potential, so decided to start his own sticker business.”

As with any new business, Bartosz’s first challenge was to find customers. Fortunately, his initial contacts with local businesses resulted in a number of smaller orders and a lot of positive feedback. As a new business, without many connections, he had to focus on acquiring new customers. With the help of his mum, he managed to spread the word about Buzz Decals in the local area, and the first orders started to roll in.

“At the moment we are offering a variety of high quality stickers, banners, magnetic stickers, printing graphics for frames etc, all available in different shapes, sizes and quantities, and ideal for promotional and marketing purposes or just for fun,” added Anna. “We are now really keen to cooperate with local businesses, clubs, charities and communities. Anyone who is interested is invited to get in contact.”
