News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Hands up anyone who has been to the Picnic in the Park held in Alexandra Park, Bath, each summer.

After a three-year break due to Covid, the Alexandra Park Friends hope to bring the extravaganza back this July – but only if some willing volunteers step forward to help.

“We are a very small committee and it’s a big event to organise,” said Collin Carr, the chairman. “We desperately need some new blood to help in organising everything and to help during the event to make it run smoothly.”

For those who haven’t been to a picnic but would like to be involved, it is a joyous afternoon with live music from local bands throughout, lots of fun for all ages, a novelty dog show and a raffle with very generous prizes.

There’s a bar and a stall selling burgers, or people bring their own picnics and enjoy relaxing with friends in one of the most beautiful settings in Bath.

“In the run-up we could use people with organisational skills, there are ads to beg for for the programme and also prizes for the raffle,” added Colin. “We offer really good raffles, each one worth a minimum of £20. New ideas would be welcome too.

“On the day we need volunteers to sell programmes at the gate, and raffle tickets. We don’t expect people to devote the entire afternoon to it, we want them to enjoy the picnic and music with their families too. Usually people do a couple of hours on the gate, similarly for the raffle prizes.”
