News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Beechen Cliff school in Bath has been celebrating a successful winter term of football and rugby achievement. The ever popular and successful ACE Rugby programme continues to thrive with several former students now regulars in not only the Bath Rugby first team but also in other Premiership teams.

The Academy side that feeds into this development was runners up in the ACE league in the play off final narrowly losing to Hartpury College in the final. The same team then took part in the Rosslyn Park 7’s tournament finishing in the top 10 in the country.

The U/15 Rugby team is showing real potential and promise – they are the County Champions! Following in its footsteps, the U/13 team have been crowned Banes Champions and the U/12 team, with over 80 boys attending training every week, will be a competitive force to be reckoned with next season when they enter the National Competitions.

“One could argue also that we punch above our weight in football given that the region doesn’t have a Football League team and the backdrop of a strong rugby culture,” said Assistant Headteacher Kant Mann. “Both the U/16s and the U/13s reached the English Schools Cup quarter finals, the last eight from an entry of 500 teams. A significant follow up achievement after our narrow loss in the final of this Cup with the U/14’s last year.

“On the bread and butter side of things, the First XI (6th form team) and the U/16 team will shortly be playing in the final of the County Cup in their respective age groups, and the school can boast being Banes Champions across 3 age groups!

“Alongside these significant sporting achievements on a national and local level, we look forward to the cricket and tennis season.”
