The Early Years and Foundation stage (EYFS) children at Combe Down Primary School recently enjoyed a visit from Elivis Amamut, a bus driver for First Bus, as part of their careers education. Elivis is also a parent of one of the children and wanted to help give the children a fun and practical way to learn about his job.
In the classroom, the children have been following the term topic of Space and Transport, so the chance to explore a bus on the school grounds was an excellent learning opportunity. Carefully organised by teachers Mr O’Neill and Mr Harris, Elivis arrived at Combe Down dressed in his work uniform and invited the class on board.
Everyone had the chance to sit in the driver’s seat, ring the stop bells and take a look at the engine. The entire class was fascinated when Elivis talked about his role and what a day in the life of a bus driver is really like.
Jane Gascoigne and Jo Bird, Co-Headteachers of Combe Down Primary School said, “We are proud to continue making sure our curriculum is engaging, relatable and captures the attention of children of all ages. Our youngest children were absolutely enthralled by the recent bus driver visit and spoke about it with their loved ones for days afterwards. It is moments like this that create lasting memories and learning opportunities for our children.”
