News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Happy KES pupils and parents have been celebrating this morning after another year of outstanding GCSE results. With 38% of entries at the top 9 grade, 66% at 9/8 and 84% at 9-7 – almost four times the national average – these superb outcomes almost exactly match last year’s record breaking achievements and should be a source of great delight and pride for everyone involved.

1 in 7 pupils achieved only 9 or 8 grades in all their subjects – broadly equivalent to the old A* – with a quarter of the cohort gaining at least 7 grade 9s, including 16 pupils with 9 or more. Many pupils exceeded their own expectations, and they all deserve great praise for the hard work, tenacity and ambition that they have shown over the last few years.

“As always, inspirational teaching and thoughtful support have been at the heart of this success,” said Headmaster, Martin Boden. “Notable departmental highlights amongst many this year include 94% of the 300 Triple Science entries being at grade 7 or above, 92% of all Classics grades being 9/8 and 57% of all English (Language and Literature) entries being at grade 9. Nearly half of all entries for Spanish and History were also at the top grade.

“It was lovely to see so many smiling faces this morning, including from parents who, of course, do so much to support their children through these nail-biting times! Well over 90% of the cohort have chosen to move through to our Sixth Form, and I am looking forward to them being joined by more than 25 new faces in Year 12 at the start of the new term.

“I am sure that they will all make a great success of the next two years, and I have no doubt that they will continue to contribute in so many different ways to both the academic and the vibrant wider life of the school.”
