News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

To mark World Mental Health Day, Heywood Prep in Corsham, Wiltshire, turned bright yellow as pupils and staff dressed in the colour to show support for children’s mental health.

Each pupil brought in a donation, with all funds raised going directly to Young Minds, a charity that supports children and young people’s mental health across the UK. This initiative allowed pupils to make a meaningful contribution while raising awareness about the importance of mental wellbeing.

An assembly was held, featuring the story of the ‘Hope-A-Potamus’, a character who faces challenges but stays hopeful. This story encouraged pupils to recognise that all emotions are valid and that it’s OK not to feel okay. The message aligns with Heywood Prep’s ongoing efforts to develop emotional literacy and resilience among its pupils.

The donations made by pupils will help Young Minds continue its vital work in providing support and resources to children struggling with mental health challenges. With 1 in 6 children now having a probable mental health disorder (NHS, 2021), this support is more crucial than ever.

Heywood Prep hopes the event inspired its pupils to make a positive impact on their friends, families, and the wider community, while also learning about the importance of their own wellbeing.
