News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Congratulations to three 8-year-old pupils from Christ Church Primary School in Bradford-on-Avon, who recently took to the water to raise money for their school.

In a remarkable show of stamina and the perseverance, Anoushka McGrail, Beth Stanger and James Pengelly clocked up an impressive 1,850 metres in just 30 minutes. That was 74 lengths of Bradford-on-Avon swimming pool!

Their determination was also apparent in their fundraising endeavours – the three designed and put up posters, shook a bucket after school, spoke to friends and family, and collected sponsor money from their neighbours. They smashed two fundraising targets – they initially wanted to raise £150, then they set themselves a target of £500; their total currently stands at £850!

Paula, treasurer of FOCCS (Friends of Christ Church School), said, “We’re really proud of Anoushka, Beth and James. We’re always delighted when people approach us with fundraising ideas but it’s particularly brilliant when the children do so.”

The children would like the money to be spent on some outdoor play equipment and have spent the summer holidays thinking about what this could be.

Their online sponsorship page is open until the end of October, with donations welcome at www.mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/keepswimming
