The Hayesfield Girls’ School PE Department recently hosted its annual Sports Awards Celebration event and shared the successes of its extensive extra-curricular programme, sporting fixtures, elite sport and commitment to achieving sporting ambitions.
This year’s prizes were awarded by Team Bath Netball Captain and England Netballer, Eboni Beckford-Chambers. Eboni delivered a fantastic opening speech covering her inspirations, setbacks and successes in sport, which really inspired the students at Hayesfield where netball is one of the most popular after-school activities, with over 70 students regularly attending Year 7 Netball Club.
Eboni went on to thank the parents of students who attend a range of sporting activities and acknowledged the fact that both academic and sporting success is achievable for those who commit themselves and work hard to achieve success.
Before the Awards Ceremony, 18 lucky students across Years 9, 10 and 12 were treated to a special training session with Eboni, funded by Mogers Drewett the educational sponsors for Team Bath and Eboni’s employer.
The awards ceremony saw prizes awarded for a range of sports, including netball, hockey, swimming and football. Alongside extra-curricular prizes and senior sports colours, there were three main winners for the evening, with the Hayesfield trampoline National finalists winning the Team of the Year’ Award and the Junior and Senior Sports Personality of the Year Awards being awarded to Georgina Edney and Evie Brady respectively.
In addition to the prize giving, guests were treated to student speeches and two performances from World Tap Champion Kitty O’Gara and British Rhythmic Gymnastics Champions Kashvi Cox, Elisabeth Lyndon and Ellenor Wilson.
With sport being such a key feature for the students at Hayesfield, it was excellent to be able to share the sporting outcomes of our talented students and give them an opportunity to be recognised for their successes, hard work and determination to achieve their best.
