News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Organisations and attractions across the South West are being invited to join the Rainbow Resource Scheme, designed to raise awareness and offer support to families with a child who has an additional need or disability (SEND).

By signing up to Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Rainbow Resource Scheme, participants agree to accept a special card as confirmation that a young person has a SEND and to make the holder eligible for any relevant concession or discount that may be on offer.

Currently more than 650 children and young people have a Rainbow Resource card which enables families to offer verification of eligibility in place of carrying their confidential Disability Living Allowance letter.

Dozens of attractions have been invited to join the scheme and current participants include Avon Valley Adventure Park, Aerospace Bristol, Air Hop, Bristol Aquarium, The Egg Theatre and Bishops Palace Wells.

The card is available to any child or young person, up to 25-years-old, who has an additional need or disability and lives within Bath and North East Somerset.

Gay Griffen, B&NES Parent Carers Voice chair, said, “I have used this card everywhere, Weymouth Sea life centre, Bristol Zoo, cinemas and local leisure centres. It’s been very good and I carry my card everywhere with me”.

Many organisations already offer a concession or discount to people with a disability and by joining the Rainbow Resource scheme they are not asked to provide anything extra, just to accept the Rainbow Resource card as confirmation of eligibility to a concession.

Organisations which would like to join the Rainbow Resource Community should email Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Rainbow Resource team: email hidden; JavaScript is required
