News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Almost every family in Bath and North East Somerset has been offered one of their overall preferences for primary school places in 2021/22.

Figures released today show 99% of applications received one of their overall preferences, with 93% getting their first preference of primary school.

The total number of applications received from Bath and North East Somerset residents was 1,706.

Of them, 1,581 children got their first preference school, 89 pupils were offered their second preference and 15 pupils offered their third preference.

Figures show 21 pupils were not offered a place at any of their preferences and were offered a place at their next nearest school with a place available. These are known as referrals.

In 2020 the number of children offered their first place was 93.05%.

Councillor Kevin Guy, cabinet member for Children’s Services at Bath & North East Somerset Council, said, “Choosing the right school for your child to begin their education journey is such an important decision for families, so I’m very pleased to see that nearly 99 per cent of applications received one of their overall preferences.

“We are fortunate to have a range of effective primary schools across Bath and North East Somerset that meet young children’s needs. I wish the soon-to-be Reception pupils the very best of luck at their new schools.”
