News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

After a covid-enforced hiatus, The Box Ukulele Festival is thrilled to announce its return on Saturday 16 July 16th, 2022. The Box Ukulele Festival is a welcome addition to an already impressive collection of music events held in Box, Wiltshire and will be hosted by The Queen’s Head pub which is the home of Box Rocks and Schtumm.

As in previous years, all proceeds will be donated to Dorothy House Hospice Care, with more than £6,000 having been donated from previous festivals.

The Box Ukulele Festival is a jam packed, family-friendly day, full of musical ukulele fun. A fantastic and varied line up of musical ukulele talent is scheduled, with ukulele groups from near and far performing on stage throughout the day. As in previous years, strum-alongs will enable everyone to partake in the musical fun.

Gates open at 1pm, with live music throughout the afternoon and into the evening (ending at 11pm). The Mighty Lemons return as the headliners and will whip Box into a dancing frenzy, as only they can do. Food stalls will be available and The Queen’s Head bars will be open during the festival and beyond, with an outdoor bar and stage undercover in case of inclement British summer weather.

Entrance is £10 for adults, children are free and all proceeds will be donated to Dorothy House Hospice Care.

You can find out more about the festival and the performers by visiting the website; www.boxukulelefestival.co.uk or by searching for Box Ukulele Festival, The Queens Head Box, or The Mother Pluckers on Facebook.

The festival is being organised by local band The Mother Pluckers, a Box-based Ukulele group who have been playing together for seven years. After attending The Ukulele Festival of Great Britain, they felt inspired to organise and host a local charitable event in Box. The Mother Pluckers have performed at a variety of local fairs and festivals in the Southwest, and in 2019 won ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition at Frome Ukulele Festival.

Dorothy House Hospice Care serves a community of 550,000 across Bath, North East Somerset and parts of Wiltshire and Somerset; providing compassionate care and support for people with life-limiting illness to live well and die well. The charity creates individual care journeys which start at diagnosis and continue with bereavement support for family members, carers and children. www.dorothyhouse.co.uk
