News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Theatre Royal Bath has launched Egg Young Creatives, a brand-new bursary scheme, and announced a one-off £4,000 funding opportunity open to applications from alumni of the Theatre Royal Bath’s Theatre School and Bath Theatre Academy, aged from 16 to 25 years, who now wish to develop a career in theatre.

Thanks to the generous support of The Orseis Trust, for the first time the Theatre Royal Bath is able to offer its alumni the opportunity to apply for a share of a £4,000 fund to help finance a creative project, or advance their developing creative practice. The Bath-based Orseis Trust assists local charities and organisations in and around Bath, especially those involved with young people.

James Moore, Head of Education at the Theatre Royal Bath, said, “We are so thrilled to be launching the first iteration of the Egg Young Creatives bursary. Theatre Royal Bath’s Theatre School and Bath Theatre Academy exist to enable young people to have access to high quality arts experiences and training. We champion our graduates as they take first steps into the industry or move their fledgling careers forward. We believe in investing in the local creative ecology, ensuring the next generation of theatre makers have the resources, tools and networks to thrive.”

Theatre Royal Bath’s Creative Learning Department provides specialist training and industry insight to its members and students at Theatre Royal Bath’s Theatre School and Bath Theatre Academy based at The Egg. The Egg Young Creatives scheme will enable successful applicants to develop their creative practice, specifically within the theatre industry, either through project development or skill-building. The bursary opportunity will focus on those whose backgrounds, lived experience and skills are under-represented in the theatre sector.

Sophie Jacobs-Wyburn, Head of Community Theatre at the Theatre Royal Bath, added, “Our graduates often stay in contact with us, and we have always strived to provide continued mentorship and support as our alumni begin to build upon the foundations of their training with us. Now, with the generous support of The Orseis Trust, we will be able for the first time to provide a financial helping hand to emerging artists. We are very hopeful that this is the beginning of transformative possibilities for young and emerging theatre makers in the South West.”

The deadline for applications is 12 noon on Friday June 3rd 2022. To find out more about the Egg Young Creatives scheme, including application criteria, guidance notes on how to apply and an application form, visit: theeggassembly.com/welcome/egg-young-creatives/
