News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Living Tree returns to The Egg at the Theatre Royal Bath from Saturday 18 June to Sunday 3 July giving children, families and visitors of all ages the opportunity to discover a Forest of Imagination and magical Mirror Maze as they immerse themselves in a fantastical outdoor-indoor installation.

If a tree falls in the forest… listen, the trees might be trying to tell you something. The woodland creatures might by trying to show you something.

This free event presented by the Forest of Imagination will see The Egg’s stage transformed with a real forest floor, a unique mirror maze and a five-meter tall conceptual tree designed by Andrew Amondson from Berlin’s famous Studio Olafur Eliasson.

Living Tree includes playful installations by artist and film-maker Andrew Amondson and computational architect Sasha Mballa Ekobena to highlight the importance of nature, wellbeing and creativity. The twisting geometry of the Living Tree is constructed using sustainably sourced thinnings from a local woodland.

Berlin-based Andrew Amondson, said, “I can’t wait to get back to Bath this summer. For the past eight years, Forest of Imagination has transformed the city of Bath, with immersive, playful experiences inspired by nature and connecting communities through creativity and our collective imaginations. Last autumn I was invited as an Artist-In-Residence to create the Living Treeforest in The Egg, together with an amazing team of local artists, designers and volunteers. We have big plans for the forest this year including a new Living Tree, that you can go inside, and a Mirror Maze, multiplying the magical forest experience for all.”

Living Tree is open from 10am to 5pm on Saturday 18th, Sunday 19th, Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th June and on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd July. Admission is free and no advance booking is required, just turn up at The Egg to enjoy the experience.
