News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Blazers, coats, shoes, and trousers are just some of the items that Sound Church’s (formerly Freedom Centre UK) Uniform Cupboard give away for free to any family in Bath in need of school uniform.

Since the Church was founded 23 years ago, it has remained committed to being a practical blessing to the local community, and in this last academic year alone, over 1,000 items of school uniform have been given away to families across Bath and North East Somerset.

The project aims to be there for anyone in the local area and helps families with children of any age, both in primary and secondary school. Regular uniform stalls take place for anyone to come along to and choose from good quality pre-loved items, along with the option of donating back uniform they’d like to go to others in the future.

“We know that the high costs of uniform can be such a huge struggle for many families in all financial circumstances and that the impact upon a child not having the right uniform can make their experience of learning and making friendships so much harder,” said Josh, Sound Church’s Associate Pastor.

‘In 2020, The Children’s Society found that 1 in 8 families reported that they had to cut back on food and other essentials because of uniform costs. However, that’s where Sound Church’s Uniform Cupboard hopes to step in and provide practical help to meet a need in the area.

“Many courageous families ask for support and where we may not immediately have an item available, we try to source these. One of our core values is providing a non-judgemental space so people don’t have to explain their individual circumstances. Any family from any background is welcome get in contact as we hope to make a positive difference to many families in the area.”

The stalls run every half term, with several large stalls running in the summer holiday too. They are facilitated by friendly volunteers from church who help families to feel at ease. They also aim to support beneficiaries of other charities too, such as local organisations that support the victims of domestic abuse, housing associations and schools.

Based near McDonalds on the edge of Twerton, Sound Church’s Uniform Cupboard is located near many accessible transport routes and has free parking available on site too. You can get in contact with them via email hidden; JavaScript is required or their Facebook Page.
