Bath residents and visitors are being invited to experience one of the country’s great historic sites after hours with late night opening of the Roman Baths in Bath throughout the summer.
From 22 July – 31 August, the iconic site will be open until 10pm, offering visitors a rare chance to see the Great Bath illuminated by torchlight, explore the museum at a relaxed pace and enjoy a drink under the summer evening sky.
Once the site of one of the great religious spas of the ancient world, the Roman Baths has been attracting visitors for nearly 2,000 years – when Romans flocked to the city of Bath (or Aquae Sulis as it was known then) to bathe and worship at the site of the only natural thermal springs in Britain. Today the historic site is one of the UK’s top attractions and a must-see for any visitor to the West Country. Late night opening offers the chance to extend a day out and enjoy the iconic site with friends and family this summer.
Councillor Kevin Guy, Leader of Bath & North East Somerset Council, said, “Summer Lates offer a wonderful opportunity to explore the Roman Baths after the daytime crowds have left, and experience the magical atmosphere beside the Great Bath as the sun begins to set. If you’re a local resident, don’t forget that you can visit for free with a Discovery Card, and enjoy one of Bath’s most famous sites out of hours.”
Throughout Summer Lates the historic site will stay open until 10pm with last admission at 9pm. A pop-up bar beside the Great Bath will open from 11.30am daily, selling Champagne, prosecco and soft drinks.
The Roman Baths Shop will stay open late for visitors to browse the wide range of gifts, many with a Roman and Georgian flavour, including souvenirs, toiletries, jewellery, biscuits, chocolate, locally made crafts, prints and much more.

Bubbles by the Baths

Evening dining
