News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

It’s great news for mums of all ages that the Barre Fitness Studio has opened in Bath, offering a range of highly effective using low-impact exercises, with workouts to support clients in all stages of life – including mums, mums to be and peri-menopausal mums.

“The Barre Method is a blended workout, fusing elements from the movement of ballet, the core focus of pilates, the stretching of yoga and the strengthening of functional exercise,” explained founder Georgina Burke. “The beauty of this means there will always be movement you recognise.

‘With Barre at the heart of The Class Menu, we have designed workouts to support clients in all stages of life. We offer Barre, Fusion classes, for example Pilates Fusion and Flow, and yoga inspired mat workouts both in person and On Demand.

“Clients’ well-being is at our core and stepping into our studios, situated in the heart of Bath City and Clifton , should offer a little bit of calm, enjoy a fantastic workout, and leave you on a natural high.”

Why is barre so great for the female body?

“Barre is a very effective workout for all ages and fitness levels. It is a form of strength training that will build the muscle we need throughout life, but also as we age and begin to lose muscle mass,” explains Georgina. “This is turn gives us tone, with a particular focus on the core and the ability to increase your metabolism.

“Designed as a form of rehab for a ballerina it has evolved into the fitness class we love today.

“It’s commonly thought you need dance experience to take class, but that’s really not the case. It can be an effective workout on its own or complimentary to higher impact exercise lovers.

“It is fantastic for the female body and our varying stages through life as it safely builds muscle tone and supports all hormonal fluctuations and changes. We have women who will barre through their pregnancy, they the return Post Nataly to our Barre & Baby Classes with little one and then continue onwards.

“We then see many women joining as the higher intensity exercise, they once favoured stops being as effective, especially as we enter the Peri Menopause and Menopause, and sometimes has the opposite effect of weight gain and injuries. This is when Barre is fantastic as it feels challenging, but kinder to the body whilst seeing results.”
