News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Bath Cricket Club has been celebrating the success of its highly regarded Community outreach programme, which is dedicated to mentoring children from vulnerable backgrounds since 2018.

Among the children currently benefitting from the initiative are pupils from St Phillips School, spanning reception to year 6, for whom is offers a transformative experience that extends beyond sports.

“The programme’s impact reaches far and wide, nurturing the holistic development of these children by providing a diverse range of activities,” explained Jonathan Green, Head of Junior and Community Cricket at Bath CC. “Participants not only engage in various sports activities but also receive invaluable support in core subjects such as English and Maths. Additionally, they immerse themselves in complete art and craft sessions and explore the realms of music, all aimed at boosting their self-esteem and fostering a sense of accomplishment.

“The club has also extended its outreach to St Vigor and St John in Chilcompton, with other schools taking part including Oldfield Park secondary, St Martins, Twerton, St Andrew’s and St Marks.”

Jonathan added that the mentorship package offered by the programme is designed to be comprehensive, providing a structured framework for growth. It includes 6 weeks of dedicated mentoring, empowering children with guidance and support, alongside 6 free hours of curriculum PE to further enhance their physical development and well-being.

“Our Community Outreach Programme has been an incredible journey, witnessing the transformative effect it has had on these children’s lives. Beyond sports, this initiative empowers them with essential life skills and support in academic areas, fostering confidence and self-belief. We’re thrilled to continue this journey and extend this opportunity to more schools, making a meaningful difference in the lives of these children.”
