News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

When Bath mum Emma Arnaudet decided to qualify as Teens and Parents Coach, she had a clear aim for what she wanted to achieve. “To allow parents, children and families to achieve the greatest degree of happiness and to navigate skilfully through changes and difficult situations and relationships,” she explained, with an enthusiasm that exposes a real passion for her new role.

The result is Love My New Life, a coaching service for young people and families.

“As a mum and a teacher, I have a real first hand experience of the pressures that families, and children in particular, experience in their daily lives, including low self-esteem, anxiety, conflicts with authority and bullying,” says Emma. “These are hugely important areas that can lead to relationship challenges, feelings of isolation, school refusal and stress.

“Through the coaching that I offer, clients are encouraged to make new, different choices that will serve them better. Instead of approaching issues such as anxiety and low self-esteem, in isolation, they will learn to address their human needs and flourish in every area of their lives.”

Emma was already a qualified and experienced coach before she applied a year ago for a scholarship to further her coaching studies. “The RMT (Robbins-Madanes Training) gave me a Part scholarship to study Core 200 (a higher level of Coaching) and be a Master coach.”

The result of this is that Emma has 300 hours of training, and more than 100 hours of coaching altogether. “This level of experience and training is so important and something that is so important for the people that I work with.”

Emma explained that in most instances, the conflict experienced by parents, carers and their children is not at the base of their profound dissatisfaction, but as a result of their needs not being met in relationships. As a result, she encourages clients to make new choices that will serve them better.

“A key part of this is listening to clients in order to be able to match their requests,” explains Emma. “With the teens who I regularly work with, their challenges range across low self-esteem, low motivation, anxiety, high stress, bullying, friendship issues, communication breakdown, conflicts with authority, performance-stress related, understanding adults and peers’ perspectives and so much more.

“It’s a huge list and each element can be crippling. The positive side, however, is that each of these can successfully alleviated. Coaching will help clients to achieve the greatest degree of happiness and to navigate skilfully through changes and difficult situations and relationships.

“The RMT Coaching programme I use has only been available for a few years and not widely developed in England. Therapies through counselling and Cahms certainly have a place and help a child to address some past trauma. However, Strategic Intervention Coaching is a different service that enables children, teens and adults to explore their human needs, overcome limiting beliefs, break behavioural patterns and develop skills to build up a compelling future.

One of the parents who Emma recently worked recalled, “Before beginning my journey with Emma, I was feeling extremely overwhelmed trying to balance my work life and life as a mum to a young child. I had recently got a promotion at work and while I was excited about the new position I felt extreme guilt about the time I would have to give up with my daughter.

“My coaching journey with Emma was transformational. I have done therapy quite extensively in the past, but what I particularly liked about the coaching model with Emma is how it was action-oriented. We delved into my different selves and thought patterns, which was definitely illuminating, but we always circled back to what I wanted to achieve and how I wanted my life to look moving forward.

“This has made me feel empowered and also helped me to accept that I can be many things at once, as we all are, and that that’s OK. I now feel excited about my new role and know that my daughter will benefit from having a happy mother who is excited about the life she’s leading.

“I’m so grateful to Emma who has been an amazing support throughout this journey. She is a great listener and has helped me to understand that I have the power to change my life for the better.”

For Emma, the great satisfaction comes from putting a smile on her client’s face and seeing them reach their goal gives me a strong sense of satisfaction.

“Throughout my career as a teacher, I have discovered the challenges that students are facing, not only in an academic sense but also in their everyday life. Seeing these same young people forming happier relationships at school, at home or within other spheres such as friendship groups in order to get a more balanced and fruitful life is wonderfully fulfilling.
