News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

To celebrate the anniversary of the first publication of Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein on 1st January 1818, Mary Shelley’s House of Frankenstein is offering all Bath residents 2 for 1 entry throughout January 2024.

Mary Shelley was only 19 when she wrote most of Frankenstein whilst living at 5 Abbey Churchyard, Bath. Considered one the most important and influential books in English literature, the name and imagery of Frankenstein is instantly recognisable in many parts of the world today. It is included in the UK school curriculum as an outstanding example of its genre.

The award-winning immersive museum in the centre of Bath tells the compelling story of what inspired this remarkable young woman to write the world’s most famous horror story. Featuring uniquely themed rooms, ominous soundtracks and bespoke smells, it explores the genesis and legacy of Shelley’s novel.

This includes a floor dedicated to the impact of Frankenstein on popular culture, a small screening room showing the first Frankenstein film from 1910, an 8ft animated recreation of ‘The Creature’ as Shelley imagined it, two themed Escape Rooms and – for the braver visitor – an optional walkthrough experience in the basement.

Bath residents are entitled to one free entry when accompanied by one paying adult throughout January 2024. Simply show your Discovery Card or proof of a BA postcode on arrival. This offer is not valid for online bookings.

The offer is valid from 2nd to 31st January 2024.  Please note this offer is not valid against Escape Room or The Body In A Suitcase game tickets. Tickets for Escape Rooms and games can be upgraded on arrival, subject to availability.

The museum is situated at 37 Gay Street, Bath. Open daily from 11am (Sunday – Friday) and 10am Saturdays.
