News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Perform drama, dance and singing weekly classes for 4-7s and 7-12s are now taking place to Saltford, alongside the established classes in Chippenham and Larkhall, Bath.

“Perform classes are different to traditional drama schools,” explained Stephanie Quigley from Perform. “Child development is placed at the heart of the curriculum, with the performing arts used as a vehicle to help children develop important social skills. For instance, learning how to use effective eye contact or developing solo speaking skills by learning how to tell a joke.

“This learning is delivered through drama-based games and song and dance activities which boost confidence, build concentration, develop communication and hone coordination. Perform calls them the 4 Cs. In fact, the children don’t notice they’re learning skills each week, they just think they’re having an enormous amount of fun!

Perform

“Perform is now 24 years old and is very well established with over 300 classes running each week across London and the south east, the south west, Nottingham and Cheshire. Parent feedback is incredibly positive with over 95% of parents saying they’d recommend Perform.”

Recent feedback for local parents include –

“My son has thoroughly enjoyed the weekly sessions. Lots of energy, enthusiasm and scope to grow,” Chippenham parent.

“We are so happy with the dedication and professionalism of the teachers,” Larkhall parent

Stephanie explained that classes are run by qualified professional actors, dancers and singers who are trained centrally, explaining that Perform is not a franchised organisation. “This means classes are consistent from area to area and, if a child can’t attend one week, they’re welcome to join a nearby class on another day so they don’t miss out!” she added.

“Every term there’s a new theme, and this term classes for 4-7 year olds are off on an adventure to the Wild West where they’re learning tongue-twisters, raps and fun dance routines whilst meeting colourful characters. Meanwhile, classes for 7-12s are enjoying a disco re-make of Snow White in Killa Queen, but in this dance-off version, the Killa Queen wants to be the best dancer of all!

“At the end of term, the children don costumes and show family and friends all they’ve learned in a wonderful final performance.”

To compliment the weekly classes, resources are made available which keep the fun alive at home, with stickers to collect, free apps to download and videos to help perfect dance moves. Parents receive a weekly update and a progress report every 10 weeks. Classes are Ofsted registered which means payment can be made using Childcare Vouchers and Tax-Free Childcare.
