Children from Little Willows Day Nursery in Corsham recently enjoyed the fruits of their learning when the tomatoes that they grew in the nursery became part of a healthy lunch.
“It was wonderful to work with a group of 11 two-three year old toddlers from the nursery over a period of weeks which saw them starting out by planting the tomato seeds back in June,” explained Lauren, the Deputy Manager at Little Willows Corsham.
“The children helped dig, plant, water and feed the tomatoes, learning along the way how to care and look after a plant, understanding the different stages of the plants’ life cycle and what to look out for, such as every yellow flower eventually becoming a tomato.
“Then once the time was ready, the children were so excited to search for the tomatoes on the plants
and watch them grow and turn red. We then picked the tomatoes together and tried them with our lunch, which was delicious!”
