News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Pupils at King Edward’s are today celebrating the school’s best ever GCSE results, with 54.9% of entries at A* and 81.4% at A* or A. Over a quarter of the pupils achieved 9 or more A*s, including two with a remarkable 12 each, and more than half gained only A* or A grades in all their subjects.

In a record breaking year, the pupils revealed their talents across a range of subjects; two thirds of all exams taken in modern languages were A*, whilst the highest grade was achieved in three quarters of the nearly 300 entries for the triple sciences. However, even these impressive returns were topped by those in the Classics department, where over 90% of the 64 entries for Latin and Greek were A*.

With KES continuing with the demanding IGCSE syllabus for Maths and English, pupils at the school will have to wait until next year to experience the new numerical grade scale that will eventually become the norm for all subjects.

Headmaster, Martin Boden, commended the pupils on their superb results, commenting, “We seem to have had a number of ‘record breaking’ sets of results in recent years, and these GCSE grades are again truly outstanding. It is testimony to the pupils’ talents and efforts that they have set the bar so high this year. They have all worked incredibly hard for these results whilst also contributing so impressively to school life in so many ways, and both they and their teachers deserve the heartiest of congratulations. We are delighted that almost all of this year’s cohort are returning to the Sixth Form at KES, and we look forward to continuing this magnificent journey with them in just a few weeks’ time.”
