Downside School Lower Sixth Former, Wiktoria Lassak, has taken part in the WDSF World Youth 10 Dance Championships in Kiev with her partner Jan Bednarz.

The couple performed five Ballroom and five Latin numbers, scored five 10s, and finished just 12 points behind the winners. They ranked number 1 for Polish couples in the competition, and number 12 out of all 37 performing couples.

Wiktoria, originally from Krakow, joined Downside School this September as part of the school’s scholarship programme. She started dancing at the age of seven, and met Jan around five years ago when they were both looking for new dance partners. The couple is affiliated to the Federation of Sports Dance (FTS) and belong to the Polish national team. They have been the Polish champions twice, vice-champions four times, seventh in Europe and 12th in the world.

While Wiktoria loves all of dances, she admits, “My favourite dance is the Rhumba – it’s very emotional; it’s the dance of love.”

Wiktoria and Jan’s next competition will be on 16 November in Vienna at the WDSF World Championship Latin Youth.
