News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Families across the Bath region are being invited to take part in the Bath Marches charity walks on 3 September to help raise funds for Mentoring Plus, a Bath-based charity who support over 250 local young people each year with mentoring programmes and activities.

The Marches is a fantastic day out suitable for all the family, with a choice of 15 mile, 9 mile or 4 mile walks, with the routes all marked out and stops and snacks along the way.

The event is taking place to raise vital funds which will go directly towards funding the mentor programs run by Mentoring Plus to support those young people in our communities that are facing significant challenges in their lives and who need our support.

This county is famous for its beauty and heritage, but it includes areas of high deprivation and rural isolation. For a young person affected by poverty, family breakdown, physical and mental health issues, or other difficulties, this is not always a beautiful place. That is where Mentoring Plus can help. Its work helps to increase confidence, self- esteem and wellbeing, while also providing access to new experiences, opportunities, and connections within the community.

When the Mentoring Plus team asked one of the young people what a difference mentoring had made for them, they replied, “My mental health has got better and I feel like my anxiety isn’t as bad. It has been a relief from everyday life having someone to talk to.”

Fundraising Manager Jenny Perez, explained, “We have teamed up with the Bath Marches for the third year in a row to raise much needed funds for the charity. We are still very much feeling the impact of the pandemic and are still experiencing a huge demand for our services. Funds raised will enable us to keep providing support to young people in need through our mentoring programmes. We would love for members of our community to join us on a fun day and help us fundraise.”
