News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

The Devizes Eisteddfod is always an important event in the St Margaret’s Prep calendar. Performance, music and the arts form an important part of the school curriculum and the pupils at St Margaret’s have been busy with their preparations in the lead-up to the event, which gives children the opportunity to perform and receive constructive feedback on a musical or creative arts piece.

The school was well-represented by children from across the Prep department in music, speech and drama, creative writing, poetry, handwriting and art. They came away with an impressive 15 Distinctions, 20 Commendations and three Merits, as well as a number of cup winners, who won their group. This included the school’s Chamber Choir, which won both the U11 Choir Plaque as well as the School Music Presentation Cup.

Mrs Gibbin, Head of Performing Arts, said, “At St Margaret’s, the creative and expressive arts are an important part of our programme designed to make pupils creative and confident. We are a partner school for the Devizes Eisteddfod and value very much the opportunities it provides for our children to experience live performance for an audience and learn from a professional adjudicator.

“The Creative Arts classes are also a big success for our entrants, who love having constructive feedback from the judges. Above all, taking part in the festival is great fun!”
