Year 13 pupils at King Edward’s have today been celebrating some wonderful and well-deserved A-Level results. The well-documented return to pre-pandemic grading levels saw similar numbers of top grades awarded nationally to 2019, making KES pupils’ successes even more impressive.
27% of all grades were at A*, with 65% at A*/A and 87% at A*-B. 40% of pupils achieved A* or A grades in all their subjects, with almost a quarter gaining two or more A*s.
Several academic departments achieved a 100% A*-B success rate, including all modern and ancient languages, along with Art, Music and Drama, reflecting KES’ renowned strengths in the performing and creative arts. The biggest subject entries this year were again in Maths and the Sciences, with three quarters of the nearly 150 entries in Maths, Biology and Chemistry awarded an A* or A grade.
Headmaster, Martin Boden, commented, “The class of 2023 deserve great credit for the resilience, creativity and ambition that have enabled them to produce such superb results this year, despite the shadow and legacy of Covid which in recent years both disrupted learning and opportunities to study and also meant that they were unable to sit GCSEs two years ago.
“Pupils, teachers and parents across the country can be very pleased with their tremendous efforts in the face of adversity, and I am immensely proud of the fantastic achievements of our A-Level pupils this year. They have been wonderful contributors to school life in and out of the classroom, as well as being a delightful group of young people, and I wish them all the best as they move on to the next stage in their journeys.”
