News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Eleven Year 12 students from Hayesfield School in Bath have raised an incredible £4516.75 to support Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) as a result of joining a Young Ambassadors Programme in September 2022.

As part of joining the programme, run by Bath’s local children’s hospice, Charlton Farm, the students underwent interviews, received feedback and training from the charity. They then they put their plans to fundraise into action in teams of three to support Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) in raising £16 million a year to keep its three hospices across the South West operating.

CHSW cares for children and young people with life limiting or life threatening illnesses, and their families and it helps to create precious memories.

On Thursday, the 7th of September their achievements were recognised, and their fundraising total was revealed in a celebration event in Metro Bank, Bath who kindly sponsored the event. The sum raised by The Young Ambassadors and Chirs Morgan, Head of the Applied Learning & Employability Faculty will really make a difference to the families using Charlton Farm, which the students have visited.

The students also received certificates to recognise the development of their skills including communication, planning and organising. Nancy, Gracie and Freya, who worked as a team selling vintage clothing and supplying refreshments at school discos and sports days, were awarded a certificate for ‘Adapting to Change and for their Team Fundraising’.

Nancy and Gracie jumped with joy in receiving the certificate, and Nancy said, “I have learnt the importance of contingency planning,” while Gracie added, “The Young Ambassador Programme has been really inspirational and has developed on so many of my skills.”

Heidi Roberts, Area Fundraiser for CHSW BANES and West Wiltshire, said “I am so proud of how the students have developed over the academic year in confidence and in key skills. They have shown great passion for the cause and we have truly appreciated the time they have put into volunteering for the charity and into their amazing fundraising.

“We are thrilled that Hayesfield School will be part of the programme again this academic year. If a school is interested in finding out more about the programme, please contact us at email hidden; JavaScript is required.”
