Two students at Royal High School Bath have organised a concert featuring fellow students in order to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society UK.
The fundraiser concert entitled, ‘The Playlist’, will take place on Tuesday 29 March at 7pm. All proceeds of the concert will go towards the costs of the event and Alzheimer’s Society UK directly.
Students Megan Ong (pictured above) and Phoebe Wirick are making all the arrangements for the concert. They share a love for music and have both been personally affected by Alzheimer’s in their families.
The evening performances will be filled with a variety of music genres, featuring soloists and ensembles, from brass bands to recorder playing. Phoebe and Megan wanted to create a concert that is inclusive and open to all, whether the performers are musically trained or not, and will be encouraging them to step out of their comfort zone and play what they truly enjoy whilst supporting a wonderful cause.
Megan said, “Dementia is one of the most heart-breaking diseases for anyone to be diagnosed with. I am from Malaysia and haven’t seen my grandmother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, for nearly two years. By initiating this fundraising event, Phoebe and I are able to raise awareness about this disease and simultaneously support a charity that helps families and loved ones that suffer with dementia.”
Phoebe added, “Growing up in a musical family has been such a privilege as it has meant I can experience and understand my family on a different level than normal. Music has also helped me say goodbye to my grandfather, having played my instrument at his funeral after he passed away with Alzheimer’s. This evening is a showcase not for talent necessarily (although that is not to say we aren’t talented!) but for the special kind of shared experiences that music can give us all.”
